About
So Athena, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Hmm… can I get back to you on that?
I’ve never been the sort of person that could settle on simply doing one thing. When I began building websites I wanted to know about everything from the graphics to the PHP code to the database design to the search engine optimization. The same thing happened when I did my computer animation diploma. I went for the animation, but then fell in love with the modeling, texturing and rigging as well.
In short, I have ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ in terms of multimedia skill sets.
For a long time I despaired over the fact that I couldn’t seem to pick a single direction as that seemed to be what most people were looking for.
“Are you a web designer or a web developer?”
“Umm… yes?”
Now however I’m starting to enjoy what may lie at the intersection of my various skills. I find myself asking questions like what happens when you cross a novel with a website? Just how far could you push 3D in a Flash user interface? This is what I think of as ‘multimedia alchemy’; the mixing of all these different creative pieces and seeing what happens.
It is after all the age for the scrambling of technologies—like mixing your cellphone with an mp3 player, a GPS and a personal gaming system. Sure, why not? It worked for Apple.
So I say, let’s mix it up…
